The Right Way to Floss your Teeth

Flossing your teeth daily helps remove plaque and other debris that brushing alone cannot reach. If you floss your teeth regularly, you will be able to extend the life of your teeth. Also, it reduces the risk of potential gum problems. It is necessary to floss your teeth daily and it should be a part of your complete oral care routine. Flossing your teeth can help you get rid of bad breath. There are various other benefits of flossing your teeth and so, you need to floss your teeth regularly and correctly.

Here are the ways to floss your teeth in the right manner:

To do’s

  • Cut a piece of floss about 18 inches long, or approximately to the length between your elbow and your fingers

  • Leaving about 2 inches between your hands, you will have to wrap the floss around your middle fingers and index on both the hands

  • Slide the floss gently between two teeth

  • When you slide the floss between your teeth, you will have to wrap it around a tooth into a “C” shape at the base

  • Then slowly slide it beneath the gum line

  • Wipe the tooth two to three times going from the base towards the tip

  • Ensure to floss both sides of your teeth

  • Use a new piece of floss for each tooth because the same one wears and picks up particles as you use it

  • When you are done flossing your teeth, you will have to brush your teeth

  • Brushing your teeth after flossing will help prevent gum disease and tooth decay

  • Do not forget to floss daily. If you fail to floss on a regular basis, there will be plaque build-up

  • Do not get scared by seeing blood on your floss when you do it initially

  • Floss your teeth in the night so that plaque does not get all night to rest and fester

  • Do not floss your teeth only to remove food stuck in between your teeth. Make sure to spend enough time flossing and removing the plaque

  • Do not take it easy. Press firmly against the tooth and move gently towards the gum line

  • Do not hurry. Take enough time to floss your teeth as this will ensure better results
